Client vs. Browser
The Insight collections may be accessed in two ways: by using the Insight Java Client or by using a standard web browser. The Java client is the recommended method, providing the most extensive functionality for viewing Insight collections. The Java client is ideal for:
- cross collection searching
- manipulating images
- creating presentations and exporting them in HTML or PowerPoint
The Browser version is ideal for:
- new or occasional users of Vassar College digital image collections
- instances where the Java client cannot be downloaded
Note: Pop-up blockers will interfere with the working of Insight Browser. Turn off your pop-up blocker (in Internet Explorer, tools/pop-up blocker/turn off...) before trying to use the viewer.
Downloading the Insight Client
Members of the Vassar community have permission to download the Insight client.
(If you encounter difficulties with the download, please visit the CIS Help Desk for a copy of the file on disc.)
Accessing the Collection via the Web Browser
Members of the Vassar community may access Vassar's Insight collections through a browser connection.
Logging In
Members of the Vassar community should log in to Insight using Vassar's username and password.
Accounts
Most Vassar users will be able to do everything they need to do by using the general username and password mentioned above. Some faculty members may need a special account, with its own login, in order to be able to export higher resolution images and to save groups and presentations on the server, for others to access. If you think you may need such an account, please contact ACS.
Choosing Collections
You can select any of the listed collections to login to on the login screen.
