Getting Familiar with the Interface
The main menu items for Insight are:

group, or new group; delete a group, save a group, save a group as a different
group, save results of a search; or export a selected item.
- Edit - Provides editing functions such as copy, cut, paste, delete and
edit data. Edit data is not available for all collections.
- Group - Enables you to create multi-views, create a presentation, select
a visible image, select none, show selected, sort by, and change thumbnail

you create a presentation or create a multi-view.
- Data - Shows the descriptive information about the currently selected image(s).
- Search - Enables you to find specific images by selecting values from the
data. The "quick search" options will vary by collection, but you
will always be able to perform keyword, data fields and show all searches.
- Print - Enables you to print image data, print thumbnails, and export data
and images as HTML pages.
- Return - Transports you to the Image Workspace.

Using groups
Create a new Group when you want to save and come back to selections of images or share them with others. Also, creating a Group is a first step in using Insight’s Presentation feature. Images may be copied from one or more collections into the same group. Images can be copied from one group to another group. Groups can be saved to folders on your computer, and groups can be saved to folders that you share with other users who may be located anywhere on the Internet.
Note: Before you can create a Group, you must log in and open an Insight collection.
Creating a New Group
From the group workspace, choose "File." A drop down menu will
open
revealing several choices regarding groups. Some of these options will
be grayed out and will not be available until you have created and
saved a group. To create a group choose "New Group" from the list.

The "New Group" space
A three panel window will open up as shown in the screen shot
which
follows. The panel on the far left contains the navigation menu. The
center panel is titled "New Group" and will hold the contents of any
group you create. The panel on the far right contains whichever
collection(s) you choose to have open. In order to add images to any
group it is necessary to have that collection selected.

Adding Images to your Group
To add images to your group, simply click on them and drag them over to the "new
group" panel. This can be accomplished one by one or by selecting a batch
and then dragging them over at once. To remove an image, right click on it
and choose deselect.

Saving a Group
Once you have created a new Group or changed an existing Group, the Group can
be saved for later use. If a new Group or changes to an existing Group have
not been saved, an asterisk will appear after the Group name in the window
title bar. If you close the Group thumbnail window with the close (X) button
before the Group has been saved, Insight will prompt for confirmation so that
Group results are not unintentionally lost. Click yes at this prompt if you
want to save the Group.

You can also save a Group by choosing save group or save group as from the file main menu.
Saving a Group allows you to give the Group a new name and to select the folder where Insight will store the Group.
By default, you can only save a new Group to your local folder at Vassar. This will open a directory browse window. Insight provides a default directory folder on your computer for saving a new Group. However, you may navigate to any location on your file directory before saving the new Group.
Remember: Since these groups files are saved locally, you need to copy these files to removeable media if you want to access them from another location. And as always, you must open these groups from within Insight after logging in from the new location. If you are a faculty member and you need to save groups on the Insight server, for others to access, please contact ACS about creating a special account.
Opening a Group
To open a group you have saved, you must be on a
computer that
is able
to access the drive your group file is stored on. Connect to Luna
Insight through the Image Gateway or a local desktop client. Choose
file then local folder then yourgroup.grp. If you do not have the
necessary collections open to start your group, you will be given the
option to cancel the action or choose a link which will automatically
open the necessary collections related to your group.
